Privacy, in plain words.

For applications submitted during our beta, we store your email address in a separate Omoide beta segment in Resend and keep your application, language, consent date, and access status in our database. Beta recruitment is closed. Existing invitations and access remain valid until their stated expiry. After you accept, we link access to your account and track call usage to manage your allowance and understand beta participation. We use it to contact you about access, onboarding, and opportunities to share feedback. Joining does not subscribe you to Omoide letters, create an account, or start a paid membership.

You can opt out or ask us to delete your beta information by emailing hello@omoide.co. We keep your address while managing beta participation, unless you ask us to remove it. We do not sell it or share it with advertisers.

When you press Subscribe, you ask to receive occasional Omoide letters. We send your email address to Resend, our mailing-list provider, and add it to the Omoide letters list. Signup does not create an Omoide story account or place an order.

We use your address for those letters and to manage your subscription. We do not sell it or share it with advertisers. Resend processes it to provide the mailing service; its privacy policy explains how it handles information.

You can unsubscribe through the link in a letter or by writing to us. An opted-out address may remain on a suppression list so it is not subscribed again accidentally. You can ask us to remove your newsletter information.

The interviewer portraits and family collage are illustrative. The sample book is Lucy Larcom’s public-domain memoir. Its opening is read by an AI-generated narrator, not Lucy’s actual voice. Interviewer introductions also use AI-generated voices. Playing these recordings does not activate your microphone or record you.

Clerk handles sign-in and session cookies. Omoide stores your account profile, storyteller details, onboarding progress, phone number, interviewer choice, and call preferences in Postgres hosted through Neon and Vercel. Stripe handles checkout and membership status; Omoide does not store card numbers. Checkout identifies test payments explicitly; other payments are processed in Stripe’s live environment.

When an enabled account starts a call, Omoide sends the saved number and selected interviewer to ElevenLabs, which places the call through its connected telephone provider, Twilio. ElevenLabs processes the conversation to generate the AI interview and its written transcript. Before starting or booking, the account holder confirms the storyteller’s agreement to audio recording, transcription, and account-holder access. Browser calls use the device microphone through ElevenLabs. You can decline, skip a question, ask to stop, or hang up at any time.

New calls retain an audio recording with ElevenLabs. We save the written transcript, an AI-generated summary, call status, duration, and the account holder’s confirmation. Transcripts and summaries may contain errors. When interview memory is enabled, Google Gemini processes transcript passages and relevant prior notes to help prepare and guide future conversations. The account holder can inspect these AI-generated notes in Memory, exclude them from future interviews, and, for self-storyteller accounts, add corrections. Invited family can see a progress overview in Memory, including conversation counts, captured moments, topics covered, and book status. Detailed memory entries remain accessible only to the account holder. The account holder, including the buyer of a gifted membership, can access all saved content for their storyteller: audio recordings, full transcripts, summaries, memories, saved stories and book drafts. Private content is private to that account, not hidden from the buyer. Only start a call if the storyteller understands and agrees to that access.

The recording-enabled ElevenLabs agent is configured with no automatic expiry for audio and transcripts. They remain until the account holder deletes the conversation or account, or requests removal. Recordings from earlier transcript-only calls are not available; that older agent retains provider transcripts for seven days. Delete conversation in Calls removes its audio and provider transcript from ElevenLabs and its transcript and summary from Omoide. Audio can be downloaded separately in Calls; the account data export includes download paths rather than audio files. Interview memory derived from the deleted conversation is removed too; corrections entered separately by the storyteller remain separately attributed. Minimal call metadata remains for status, duplicate prevention and usage limits. If you are the storyteller and do not control the account, contact us to request access or removal.

Memories are gathered from saved conversations. You can correct or exclude memories and choose when to start a private book draft. Deleting a source conversation removes the memories derived from it and withdraws any published book. The current draft and saved manuscript versions are cleared before rebuilding. Older stories saved separately remain accessible through Privacy settings, where you can read or delete them and remove family access. New separate story drafts are no longer created.

Saved preferred times alone do not trigger automatic calls. Enabled accounts can confirm a booking and opt into reminders. Earlier transcript-only bookings require updated recording consent before they can run. Call recordings and transcripts are private to the account holder and are not shared with family readers.

If the person who answers a call Omoide placed asks during it to stop or pause calls, no Omoide account can call that number until they resume or the pause ends. To honor this, we keep a coded fingerprint of the number, not the number itself, even after the account is deleted. A stop or pause made through the storyteller’s link applies only to that account. Contact us if that number should be called again.

When you invite a family reader, Omoide stores their email address, invitation expiry and status, and uses Resend to email them a private invitation link. Readers sign in through Clerk with the verified invited email and can join without a paid membership. We store their library access separately from your membership.

Invited family can follow Memory progress and suggest topics for future conversations. They will be able to read the book once it is published. They cannot access call recordings, transcripts, detailed memory entries, private book drafts, archived stories, or payment information. You can cancel an invitation or remove a reader’s access. Removing access prevents future reads; it cannot remove copies a reader has already kept.

Storytellers do not receive family invitations and do not need accounts to receive calls. Call reminders are separate from invitations and are not sent automatically at this stage.

Our server receives ordinary request information needed to deliver the website, such as the requested page and network information.

If you accept optional analytics, Google Analytics measures visits to our public pages, campaign links, clicks to start signup, and successful newsletter subscriptions. Google receives technical information about your browser and connection. We do not send names, email addresses, phone numbers, private stories, interviews, or book content. Advertising personalization is disabled.

Analytics stays off until you accept. Your choice is saved in this browser for six months. You can change it using Analytics preferences in the footer; declining stops collection and removes our Analytics cookies. Analytics cookies can last up to six months. Admin and private family pages are excluded.

Newsletter signup uses temporary request counters to limit repeated attempts. Counters store keyed hashes of network addresses and email addresses in our database for ten-minute request windows. The forms do not set tracking cookies.

If you email us, we receive your email address and what you choose to write. We use that information to respond and help with your request. Please include only information needed for the question.

Write to hello@omoide.co to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account, conversation, or newsletter information, or to withdraw your newsletter subscription. We may need to confirm you control the email address before changing or disclosing information.

Our letters are intended for adults. If a child’s information has been submitted, contact us so we can remove it.

We update this page when the website’s data practices change. The date above identifies the current version. If a change affects a subscriber’s choices, we will explain it before applying the new use.
